Tips &
Advices
Here is a list of questions about meal vouchers frequently asked by other employers:
Why am I receiving invoices from Edenred?
You may receive invoices from Edenred when certain transactions are processed via the Mastercard scheme, particularly in the case of mobile payments.
In this case, the process differs from the standard Edenred scheme:
- Edenred still authorizes the transaction;
- however, the transaction reimbursement is made by your acquirer in accordance with the terms set out in your contract;
- the Edenred service fee are therefore not automatically deducted from the reimbursement;
- they are instead the subject of a separate invoice sent by Edenred.
This system has been put in place to enable:
- acceptance of Edenred on a wider range of terminals,
- use of the card via smartphone, smartwatch, and mobile wallet,
- and a more modern payment experience for your customers.
The rules you should be aware of for your customers
Daily limit (meal vouchers): 5x the face value
- Each cardholder has a daily limit based on the face value of their card
- Example: €8 card = €40/day limit (5 x €8)
- ⚠️ Important: This rule comes from Luxembourg legislation, not from Edenred
- If the payment is declined, the customer may have reached their daily limit
Contactless payment: maximum €50- For amounts over €50, ask the customer to insert the card and enter their PIN code (if they have one)
- This is a European banking security standard
Sufficient balance required- The card balance must cover the full amount
- Automatic partial payment is not possible
- The customer should check their balance in the MyEdenred app
- Solution: offer to split the transaction into 2 payments (Edenred card + another payment method)
What terminals does Edenred work on?
Edenred cards created in association with Mastercard have the advantage of being compatible with all the payment terminals on the market, as well as with all e-commerce websites.
This means a budget of €300 per month per user, to be spent in Luxembourgish food outlets!
